Grinding: Cold working of the crystal . A World unknown but really fascinating.
In this page we want to put many of our readers aware of the processing technique of the Crystal defined as grinding and engraving . Many people think that any object in Crystal is almost complete at the time that ends up working at the glassware. In fact, when a hand blown with traditional method, or a piece blown automatically by a machine called a ” blower ” has finished its path forming and tempering in the production process of ” hot working ” this necessarily need the intervention of the artisian. Take for example these two images that may clarify the concept described above.
This is a casting of crystal triangular in shape, hewn and detached from the tube blowing. At the point the front of the photo you can see the same cut performed by the blower at the end of their work in glassware during the latter stages of processing. No doubt a particular object for its originality … but very different from what would later be after processing by our laboratory . And ‘ the moment of transformation processes in the form of roughing , grinding and polishing. It’ guessed understand what the real added value that is performed in our laboratory : You can see that the piece is finally taking shape and is defined geometry of the same. In this case, the etching is performed with simple lines with average depth. Clearly, with the thickness of this example shown in the pyramidal shape, we definitely margin and possibility to “sink ” the grinding wheel for many millimeters. Clearly it will be proportional to the thickness of the object being processed. This is why every object will have its own unique design. We note the work already performed to restore so should the tip of the pyramid itself. Every single detail is studied in detail and found that no imperfection due to the cut could jeopardize the high degree of quality with which we have always operarato since 1963. At this point we run out of our production process by performing the step of polishing. In the picture you can see that it was intentionally ” broken ” a small part of the base. You may wonder … why “break” a piece already finished ready for the polishing stage ? We did this deliberately to make you understand that in fact the step of removing defects from glassware, grinding and engraving treatments are performed with externally. Infatti this example, we have shown that the piece, in its interior, is transparent and shiny. The process of polishing it will return bright and transparent as “water” .
